Egyptian flag still flying over Israel’s embassy in Cairo

[ 25/08/2011 - 11:34 AM ]

CAIRO, (PIC)– The Egyptian flag that was raised by young man Ahmed Al-Shahhat on the roof of Israel’s embassy in Cairo is still seen flying alone, according to eyewitnesses on Tuesday morning.
Earlier rumor had it that the Israeli flag was raised once again over the embassy next to the Egyptian flag.

For his part, governor of Asharqiya province Azzazi Azzazi decided to honor Egyptian young man Ahmed Al-Shahhat who removed Israel’s flag from its embassy in Cairo and replaced it with the Egyptian flag.

Azzazi said he would honor Shahhat in a ceremony held at the province headquarters, and pledged to give him a government job worthy of his stature as a national hero and an apartment for his intended marriage, according to news reports from Cairo.

In another context, grand imam of Al-Azhar mosque and university Ahmed Al-Tayeb warned Israel of the Egyptian people’s wrath, stressing they can no longer tolerate its criminal actions and its constant disrespect of all agreements and international resolutions.

Tayeb hailed the Egyptian youth for their revolutionary spirit and their rejection of Israel’s aggression against Egypt and demanded the Arab leaders to respond to the will of their peoples and help them to get their legitimate rights.

Nunu: We won’t accept killing to continue while calm being enforced

[ 25/08/2011 - 12:25 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- Taher Al-Nunu, the Gaza government’s spokesman, has held the Israeli occupation authority fully responsible for the consequences of its military escalation over the past few hours that killed and wounded dozens of citizens.

Nunu told the Aqsa radio station at dawn Thursday, “We won’t accept killing to continue while calm is being enforced”, adding that the Palestinian people know how to deal with such a situation and to defend itself.

He said that intensified contacts were underway between his government and the parties that brokered the calm mentioning in particular Egypt and the UN to brief them about the Israeli escalation and to tell them that the situation was not accepted and should come to an immediate end.
Nunu said that consultations were also made with Palestinian factions to consider means of dealing with the situation at hand.

The Palestinian foreign ministry in a statement on Wednesday strongly denounced the Israeli violation of the calm, charging that the escalation indicated that the IOA was not interested in preserving calm and was intent on fueling tension.

It asked the world community topped by the UN to pressure the IOA into halting its aggression.
Hamas MP Ismail Al-Ashqar said that resistance factions are entitled to retaliate to the IOA attacks.
He told the same radio station also at dawn Thursday that the attacks reflected the “bloodthirsty mentality of occupation”, adding that Israeli practices were a threat to international peace.

United Nations urged to condemn Israel’s detention of Palestinian reporters

[ 25/08/2011 - 04:02 PM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC)– The Palestinian Institute for Communications and Development has called on the the world community to condemn Israel’s recent violations of press freedoms as five Palestinian reporters remain in Israeli custody.

The calls come after Israel’s Salem military court extended the detention of Al-Jazeera reporter Samer Allawi, 46, the day after the arrest of two more reporters in the occupied West Bank.
Allawi, who heads Al-Jazeera’s Afghanistan bureau, was arrested last week during a visit to his family in Sabastea near Nablus in northern West Bank.

The other West Bank reporters recently arrested by Israel include Useid Amarina, 26, who works for Al-Aqsa Channel, Amir Abu Arafah, a reporter for the local Shehab agency, Mohammed Bisharat, 25, and Nawwaf al-Amer, a program coordinator for Al-Quds Channel.

Amer has been placed in administrative detention and is being held without charges.

In the Gaza Strip, a violent Israeli air strike on civilian structures caused major damage to government and non-governmental organizations. Among those hit was the Gaza office of China’s Xinhua News Agency.

Witnesses: Settlers burn hundreds of olive trees

“At the time when Hashem created the first human being, He showed him each of the trees in the Garden of Eden and told him: “See my works how good and excellent they are! Now all that I created is for your sake. Think upon this. Do not corrupt or destroy My world. For if you destroy it, there will be no one to restore it after you.”
~ Kohelet Raba 7:19 (Real Judaism)

Maan News Agency | Aug 25, 2011

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) — Dozens of Israeli settlers set fire on Thursday to more than 100 olive trees in Mikhmas village southeast of Ramallah.

Local witnesses told Ma’an that settlers from the illegal Ma’ale Mikhmas settlement adjacent to the village set fire to agricultural land before vacating the area.
The Mikhmas village council condemned the attacks and called for support in protecting land from settler violence.

A report by the Palestinian Authority found that settler violence increased “dramatically” in June 2011, documenting 139 attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank and the destruction of over 3,600 olive trees and vineyards.

Annual figures compiled by Israeli rights group Yesh Din have repeatedly shown that nine out of 10 police investigations about settler crimes fail to lead to a prosecution

Iran pledges to support Palestinians

Thu Aug 25, 2011 8:43AM GMT

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaks during an interview with al-Manar TV on August 24, 2011.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has pledged the Islamic Republic's enduring support for the Palestinian cause, urging a united regional front against Israel.

“The cause of al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the support for resistance will never be taken off the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said President Ahmadinejad in an interview with the Lebanese-based al-Manar TV, quoted by the presidential website on Wednesday.

“The Zionist regime is tasked with creating constant instability in the region in order to pave the way for the presence and interference of hegemonic powers in the area. Therefore, to confront this regime would be to confront the hegemonic system and the world's oppressors and enslavers,” he added.

The Iranian chief executive further said that the issue of al-Quds is a global one and as such controlling the core issue to the Muslim world is of ultimate significance.

President Ahmadinejad also pointed out that any nation who supports humanity needs “to seek the disappearance of the Zionist regime (Israel) as the global symbol of oppression and discrimination.”

He underlined the need for a united regional front against the US and Israel and warned regional countries against following in the footsteps of the enemy.

He went on to say that Israel was established based on materialism, and represented all the hegemonic powers that seek to run the world through “chicanery and egotism”.

Regarding Palestinians' efforts to gain the UN recognition for a Palestinian state according to the 1967 borders, President Ahmadinejad said the Palestinian state already exists, but the hegemonic system has been trying to replace it with a fake regime.

He stated that Iran has always believed that the Palestinian land belongs to Palestinians, but added that the Islamic Republic supports the formation of a Palestinian government.

This comes as Muslims all across the world are expected to take part in the International Quds Day rallies on Friday to voice their support for Palestinians.

Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, designated the last Friday of Ramadan as the International Quds Day, during which Muslims across the world hold rallies to show their solidarity for Palestinians.
