According to Dershowitz, “I, for one, do not question his motives. I believe they are genuine. One need not accept all of Beck’s positions on Israel– and I certainly do not – in order to agree with him that support of Israel is one of the great moral issues of the 21st Century.”

Rabbis, settlers and others are cooperating with the former Fox TV personality's belief that most Jews will die in Armageddon so that Jesus can rise from the dead.

With backing like Beck's you can't go far, but you can go too far. Barring last-minute delays, you can go with him all the way to perdition, via Armageddon. The chafing Zionist-Christians and evangelists no longer have patience to wait for doomsday. 

This is the day, according to their faith, we shall happily perish in; most of the Jews will die in Armageddon - the final battle of between good and evil - against them, just so that Jesus, their savior, may finally rise from the dead. And the handful of us who survive will carry out the thousand-year vision by accepting the rule of another God. This is the vision that rabbis, settlers and other sorts of nationalist zealots are cooperating with and spreading a red carpet at the messiah's feet.

Glenn's wandering circus came to town - to Jerusalem - on Wednesday, after a performance tour. The former D.J. took over Caesarea as well, to the envy of local stand-up artists. But Wednesday night's rally was the peak, when the charlatan-entertainer-mediaman's band saluted his and new-star Danny Danon's Israel. Even the chief rabbis - considerable nationalists in their own right - said a preventive prayer for fear his missionary messages would be too blatant. Glenn promised to soften them. 

It was meant to be the mother of all rallies, yet it was clouded by a light shadow of orphanhood. The Republican candidates for the U.S. presidency all played hookey at the last minute. 

Tea Party Congress members stayed home to have a cuppa and make fools of themselves. The well-known movie actors disappeared, leaving only Jon Voight, who would no longer be remembered had he not been Angelina's dad. The American Jewish community was prominent in its absence. All it needs is to be associated with Beck. 

Even in normal America - there is still such a nature reserve - the born-again Mormon is seen as a problematic figure who taints anything he touches. Even the rightist-conservative Fox News channel fired him two months ago for making obscene statements. He called Obama a "racist" who has a problem with whites and made Holocaust slurs, diminishing its memory and meaning. A poisoned bird is whispering that this second Joe McCarthy only came to Jerusalem to rehabilitate his collapsing status in Washington. 

"Haaretz" correspondent Natasha Mozgovaya gathered selected tidbits from Beck's doctrine. But Bibi, who welcomed him like royalty, has not yet understood that a man is known by his friends as well, and support from Beck is a sign of loneliness and weakness. 

The notorious commentator accused the victims of September 11, 2001 of "whining." He compared Reform rabbis to radical Islamists, saying they are "less about religion than about politics." The Norway-camp teenagers, 68 of whom were murdered, remind him of Hitler Youth. He also had something to say about the tent protest in Israel. He finds its slogans similar to communist propaganda. 

It's not only Beck and his utterances. His partners are also an indication of what he is. First and foremost Pastor John Hagee, who was the keynote speaker on Tuesday in the Caesarea amphitheater and was applauded like the evangelist preachers in their trance churches. 

Beck, Hagee and their swarm are anti-Semites, who are not even aware of their anti-Semitism and the extent of its ugliness. Or maybe they are. In recent years this anti-Semitism has not been directed mainly against Jews, for they have found the Arab substitute for it. Now they are using the Arabs to scare Israel and the Muslims to scare the world. And the white, Aryan lion will devour them and their undercover envoys such as Barack Hussein. 

The visit ended yesterday, the circus is folding its tent and moving elsewhere. Let's pray it will not return soon. Mr. Beck, don't come back. We're not short of dangerous wackos here.

Al-Mat'haf- Gaza's first and only archeological Museum

Gaza, (Pal Telegraph) - Al-Mat’haf, Arabic for museum, is the first archaeological museum in Gaza, and one of the few in Palestine. It is also the realisation of a 26-year-old dream by Jawdat Khoudary, the creator of the museum, who was inspired by the love and appreciation of history when he accidently found an Islamic glass coin in Gaza in 1985.

Due to the nature of Khoudary’s job as a construction and civil engineer, which meant that he would be revealing layers of ancient history during the process of digging foundations for buildings, he became a collector of everything ancient that he came across. He preserved them at his house for 25 years, until his dream of building Gaza’s first archaeological museum became a reality.

Al-Mat’haf is situated in one of the city’s quietest coastal spots. It overlooks a stunning view of the Mediterranean, which stands as a reminder of the unchanged leftovers of the city. In Al-Mat’haf itself, more than 300 archaeological items that were found in Gaza are on display. They come from the many different historical eras that the city commendably survived.

The creation of Al-Mat’haf did not come easily. Dire problems such as the Israeli siege and war in 2008 (which caused much damage to Al-Mat’haf) and building-material shortages were minute in comparison to a seemingly impossible task - finding curators and archaeologists. The great help of the Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem, namely, Father Jean-Baptiste Humbert, contributed to solving a big part of the problem. However, like other museums, Al-Mat’haf is in need of curators and archaeologists who would be able to visit the establishment in Gaza regularly and offer their expertise to the blooming project.

In addition to four books that have been published on the collection (specifically on the exhibitions that are mentioned below) in French, German, and Swedish, an English book about the most important pieces in Khoudary’s collections, with photographs and scientific description and analysis, has just been completed with the help of the Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem. The last edits of the manuscript are being finalised, but a publisher has yet to be chosen.*

Another imperative aspect of Al-Mat’haf is the international/European exhibitions. The first exhibition was inaugurated in Geneva in 2007 before Al-Mat’haf was founded (in 2008), and it was a huge success due to the great help offered by Dr. Hamdan Taha, assistant deputy minister at the sector of antiquities and cultural heritage of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The exhibition featured more than 300 archaeological pieces, including a complete statue of Aphrodite and a hoard of Byzantine coins. After seeing what great impact the exhibition had on people who visited it in Geneva, Khoudary was even more determined to build Al-Mat’haf. “It is as important for the people who live outside Palestine to know about Gaza’s history as it is for people who live inside. Because of the dire situation that we live in, we tend to forget about our glorious past and traditions. Al-Mat’haf is a project that stands to preserve this history and, equally important, to remind people of it,” stated Khoudary.

After being hosted by the Landes Museum in Oldenburg, Germany, last year, the exhibition, called “Gaza-Gateway to the Sea,” resides in the Museum of Mediterranean and Near Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm, Sweden, after it was inaugurated there earlier this year. In the exhibition, which will be open until September of this year, more than 300 ancient artefacts that were found in Gaza (including a complete statue of Aphrodite) are exhibited. In addition, old photographs of Gaza, dated to 1956 that were taken by Swedish photographer Per Olow Anderson, are on display. The photographs were originally published in Anderson’s book,They Are Human Too: a Photographic Essay on the Palestine Arab Refugees. They show various perspectives of daily life in Gaza through images of its different people and their strong will to live despite their ongoing suffering. Fifty-five years later, the people have changed but the spirit is still the same.

The three exhibitions have greatly altered the world’s preconceived image of Gaza for the better, which is why we always welcome invitations from interested museums to host the exhibition. The website of Al-Mat’haf includes links to the many press releases and media reports about the exhibition.

Ever since its creation, Al-Mat’haf has been a symbol of Gaza’s yearning for life and its magnificent and undiscovered history as well as a must-see place on visitors’ lists. Palestinian Right of Self-Defense

Gaza, (Pal Telegraph) - Repeatedly, Israel preemptively bombs, shells, and inflicts other forms of lawless violence on Gazans, bogusly claiming self-defense.

When they respond, Israel calls it terrorism, claiming justification for greater attacks in "self-defense," what international law prohibits.

In fact, UN Charter Article 2(4) says:

    "All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations."

Only two exceptions apply. Under Chapter VII, the Security Council may authorize force to restore peace. Individual states must abide by Chapter VII, Article 51 stating:

    "Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security. Measures taken by Members in the exercise of this right of self-defense shall be immediately reported to the Security Council and shall not in any way affect the authority and responsibility of the Security Council under the present Charter to take at any time such action as it deems necessary in order to maintain or restore international peace and security."

In addition, individual states may use defensive force against armed attacks until the Security Council acts. No other exceptions apply, including armed reprisals. Calling them unlawful, the General Assembly said all states must refrain from using them.

The right of self-defense is limited solely to deterring armed attacks, preventing future ones after initial assaults, or reversing the consequences of enemy aggression, such as ending an illegal occupation.

Even then, however, force must conform to the principles of necessity, distinction, and proportionality.

Necessity permits only attacking military targets.

Distinction pertains to distinguishing between civilian and military ones.

Proportionality prohibits disproportionate force likely to damage nonmilitary sites and/or harm civilian lives.

Moreover, a fourth consideration requires preventing unnecessary suffering, especially affecting noncombatant civilians.

If these objective aren't possible, attacks are prohibited.

Moreover, to a limited degree, anticipatory self-defense is permitted when compelling evidence shows likely imminent threats or further attacks after initial ones.

However, attackers bear burden of proof responsibility, most often failing the test as America always did post-WW II. Israel also, without exception, since its preemptive 1947-48 "war of independence."

In fact, it was naked aggression against another country, stealing 78% of it from its citizens, the UN's 1947 Partition Plan notwithstanding, granting 56% of historic Palestine to Jews, as well as designating Jerusalem an international city under a UN Trusteeship Council.

The UN Charter also explains under what conditions intervention, violence and coercion are justified. None exist in Palestine now or ever. Claiming an "inherent right" is also bogus under international law.

In addition, Article 2(3) and Article 33(1) require peaceful settlements of international disputes, not preemptive attacks. Article 2(4), in fact, prohibits force or its threatened use, including violent interventions of any kind.

Further, Articles 2(3), 2(4), and 33 absolutely prohibit instigating any unilateral or other external threat or use of force not specifically allowed under Article 51 or otherwise authorized by the Security Council. Doing so is naked aggression.

America and Israel are serial offenders. In response, Iraqis, Afghans, Pakistanis, Libyans, Somalis, Yemenis, and Palestinians may legally respond defensively to preemptive armed aggression.

When done, however, it's called terrorism. Aggressors make their own rules. Targeted states are doubly victimized, suffering armed attack effects, then vilified for defending themselves. It amounts to a shocking damned if you do or don't fate.

Lawless Israeli Aggression

Since August 18, Israel lawlessly bombed and shelled Gaza preemptively, falsely blaming Palestinians for multiple Israeli attacks. In fact, they bear classic false flag characteristics, notably because compelling reasons existed to launch them.

Ongoing for four days, mounting casualties include 19 Palestinians dead and 50 or more injured, mostly civilians in harms way or willfully targeted to inflict pain and suffering.

Besides violating UN Charter Article 51, Israel also defiled Fourth Geneva's Article 33 stating:

    "No protected person may be punished for an offence he or she has not personally committed. Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited....Reprisals against protected persons and their property are prohibited."

No matter. Israel willfully violates this and other international law provisions, committing preemptive armed aggression against Palestinian civilians, including using illegal weapons.

On August 19, The Palestine Monitor headlined, "Attacks on Gaza continue: 'I've never seen shrapnel wounds like this before," saying:

On Friday night alone, over a dozen air attacks struck multiple Gaza sites, including a civilian car, killing a family of three - a doctor, his five-year old son and others.

Media coordinator for Gaza's medical service, Adham Abu Salmiya, said Israel is using new kinds of weapons. Doctors reported unusual injuries, resulting in increased amputations.

Maha Elbanna, a Gaza City based Palestinian/American journalist noted images of wounded victims looking especially gruesome, saying:

"There is a picture of a teenage girl with shrapnel cuts in her face that are very deep, like I've never seen before. I have seen shrapnel wounds before and these are very strange."

In fact, weapons used may be high explosive Dense Inert Metal Explosive (DIME) ones made out of a tungsten alloy. Used during Cast Lead, they have enormous explosive power, enough to cut people struck to pieces.

In 2006, they were first used in Lebanon and Gaza. They not only kill and mutilate, their toxins cause a long-term cancer threat.

Flechette munitions possibly also were used - 4cm-long darts used as anti-personnel weapons. They penetrate to the bone, causing multiple horrific injuries. Up to 8,000 can be packed into one artillery shell. After exploding, they travel at high speed in multiple directions up to around 300 meters.

DIME and flechette munitions are terror weapons, violating the letter and spirit of international law.

Albanna added that "(t)here is so much damage across Gaza - in the north, south and in Gaza City....So far, there is no evidence that anyone in Gaza is responsible for what happened."

Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, Palestinian National Initiative Secretary-General said:

"This is a campaign that is turning into a massacre and civilian areas are targeted."

Among other nonmilitary targets, Israelis struck a concrete factory, gravely injuring two civilians. Barghouthi and Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) doctors called on the international community to demand an immediate cease fire.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas requested a special Security Council session to stop Israel's naked aggression.

In response, Gazans launched Qassam and Grad rockets as well as mortars, hardly an adequate defense against F-16s, Apache helicopter gunships, tanks and other high-tech weapons, ones Israel uses lawlessly  against civilians.

On August 20, Haaretz said a Be'er Sheva home was struck Saturday night, causing one death and four injuries.

Another rocket slightly wounded two children. In total since Thursday evening, dozens of Qassam and Grad rockets, as well as numerous mortar rounds were fired at southern Israel, wounding about 16 Israelis. Areas in and around Be'er Sheva, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Eshkol and Sha'ar Hanegev were struck. Casualties and damage caused hardly compared to what Israel inflicted on Gaza, taking an enormous toll as always.

More was inflicted Sunday when Israel struck Beit Lahia, injuring seven Palestinians, besides causing extensive damage from four days of attacks, more perhaps to come.

On August 21, Haaretz said eight senior Israeli cabinet ministers met Saturday night to discuss escalated attacks on Gaza. Cast Lead II perhaps?

Also on August 21, opposition Kadima MKs demanded Israel "launch a (large-scale) military campaign" against Gaza.

MK Shaul Mofaz (former Defense Minister and IDF Chief of General Staff) said steps must be taken to "topple (Hamas') infrastructures and create a system of ties with Egypt in order to prevent terrorism coming from its border."

In other words, when in doubt, attack. Perhaps Cast Lead II indeed. Considering Israel's horrific crimes of war and humanity last time, imagine what now may be planned.

No matter. World leaders remain silent. As usual, an August 18 White House Press statement blamed Palestinian victims the way Obama wrongfully condemned Gaddafi to justify lawless US/NATO aggression.

On August 21, Haaretz writer Yossi Sarid headlined, "Israel is isolating itself from all its Mideast allies," saying:

Israel lashed out indiscriminately, blaming everyone but itself. "Hamas is to blame because it is reponsible for everything (in) Gaza." So is Islamic Jihad. "(I)t's the (PA's) fault because it agreed (to) unite with Hamas (for) a joint government. Al Qaeda is the guilty party because" it's everywhere, "and Egypt, too, bears responsibility" because they haven't acted against "terror."

Israel's capacity for making enemies may ultimately be its undoing, leaving it isolated and reviled. For its many victims, it can't happen a moment too soon.

A Final Comment

Some good news and bad. First the bad. On August 20, Israeli forces invaded Hebron, breaking into dozens of homes, searching and damaging them, as well as arresting about 120 residents, mostly Hamas political leaders and supporters.

Now the good. On August 21, Haaretz writer Hila Raz headlined, "Israeli activists: Social protests must continue despite escalation of" violence, saying:

"Despite the escalation of violence in the south, the tent protesters are determined to keep fighting for social justice, said organizers over the weekend."

Tel Aviv protest leader Stav Shafir said:

"We'll need to find new and creative ways to protest. For many years, Israeli society got used to giving in due to security issues....Because the protest is so strong, fierce, and affects all layers of society, we understand that if we don't continue, things will be worse."

Indeed so. As a result, staying the course is crucial to have any hope for success. National Student Union leader Itzik Shmueli said:

"The goal is to get the government to fix matters such as health care, education and housing....There's no reason for the protests to die out. We have a very powerful weapon on our side - the truth."

Hopefully that spirit won't wane despite Israel's objective to crush it. In fact, it was present Saturday night, YNet News saying Tel Aviv "protesters march(ed) under red banners....chanting time-honored slogans from the oeuvre of the pacifist hard Left." They included:

    * "Jews and Arabs refuse to be enemies."
    * "We demand social justice in both Israel and the Territories."
    * "Let us live in dignity in both Gaza and Ashdod," and
    * "No to another war that will bury the protest."

Imagine that spirit inspiring all Israelis. It's already present in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, so why not throughout all Eretz Yisrael.

Palestinian child assaulted by settlers in Ramallah

West Bank, (Pal Telegraph)-medical sources confirmed that a Palestinian child aged 10 years was brutally assaulted yesterday by Jewish settlers near Makhmas village, in the east of Ramallah.

According to eyewitnesses, more than 13 settlers of the illegal settlement of Raman Mighroun assaulted the child without justifications mentioned.


Ambulances rushed to the scene and evacuated the child to the hospital due to his serious wounds, Eyewitnesses added.

Medical teams told that three Palestinian citizens were hospitalized in the past month after being attacked by settlers using sharp tools.

Another Palestinian youths was hit by settler driving a car near Kiryat Arba settlement, in the northeast of Hebron.

The man was brought to the hospital because of bruises and wounds sustained his body.

Settlers uproot 80 olive saplings near Nablus

West Bank, (Pal Telegraph)- Settlers from the illegal settlement of Eish Kodash uprooted 80 newly planted olive saplings in the south of al-Masara village, southeast of the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
Gassan Duglos, a Palestinian official in charge of settlements file in the northern part of the West Bank, said that Jewish settlers invaded the village and started uprooting 80 olive saplings planted by local families.

Doglus added that Palestinian citizens shocked Sunday morning when they saw the trees destroyed.
Residents appealed all human rights institution to intervene to stop Israeli recent escalation against their properties.

Muslim Worshipers banned from Al-Aqsa Mosque

Palestine, (Pal Telegraph) - Israeli police Sunday night closed Damascus Gate, one of the main gates of the Old City of Jerusalem, as well as Al-Aqsa Mosque with the worshippers locked inside following rumors of  stabbing of an Israeli policeman during a protest against Israeli attacks on Gaza, witnesses said.

While the Israeli police did not confirm the stabbing incident, police nevertheless used force to disperse the protesters and detained a number of them at the Russian compound in West Jerusalem.
The protest started at Damascus Gate and proceeded through Sultan Suleiman Street, but police intervened to break it up before it got to Salah Eddin Street, East Jerusalem's main business area.

Police assaulted Palestinian medical staff and ambulance crews who tried to give assistance to people beaten up by police, said the witnesses.

In a later development, Al-Aqsa guards told WAFA that Israeli police provoked worshippers who were trying to hold the Monday dawn prayers at the Mosque, raising level of tension in the occupied city.

Israeli police had declared a high state of alert in Jerusalem on Sunday following reports of possible attack in the city. Police set up road barricades throughout the city, causing heavy traffic jams.
The alert level was lowered Monday morning.

Israel army confine freedom of movement in Bethlehem

West Bank, (Pal Telegraph) - Israeli soldiers Monday imposed strict military restrictions on Bethlehem governorate, putting up checkpoints along the main roads and impeding Palestinians' movement, said security sources.

Israeli soldiers stationed at the “Container” checkpoint, which links the north of the West Bank to the south, are obstructing and inspecting Palestinian vehicles, creating a mass traffic jam on both sides of the checkpoint and preventing Palestinians from reaching their places of work.

In a related matter, Israeli soldiers Monday morning put up a checkpoint on the main road between Beit Sahour and Al-Ubeidiya, towns east of Bethlehem. Soldiers obstructed Palestinian vehicles' movement, inspected the vehicles and checked passengers' IDs.

Israeli bulldozers raze 20 dunums in Hebron

West Bank, (Pal Telegraph)-Israeli occupation bulldozers razed on Wednesday Palestinian fields and confiscated irrigation networks  in al-Buq'a area, eastern Hebron.

Local sources said that Israeli bulldozers supported by military jeeps and the so-called civil administration razed 20 dunums planted with vegetables and confiscated irrigation networks belonging to Palestinian farmers.

Sources indicated that Israeli authorities razed those lands for the fourth time in a row during the past few months, aiming at evicting the area from its inhabitants in order to facilitate the expanding of Israeli illegal settlements.

Settlers uproot 50 fruit trees in Beit Ummer

West Bank, (Pal Telegraph)-Settlers from the illegal settlement of Beit Ein uprooted yesterday several fruit trees planted in the Palestinian territories of Biet Ummer town, in the north of Hebron.

Mohammed Awad, spokesman of the Popular Committee Against the Wall and settlements, said that dozens of settlers stormed the area and cut dawn 50 fruit trees belonging to Palestinian families.

Hammad al-Salibi, Palestinian farmer, told that settlers attacked his fields for four times, inflicting great damage and financial looses.

In the past few weeks, Israeli army prevented Palestinian farmers of the nearby area from working in their agricultural lands without providing any justification.

Spain: ‘Time is right’ for Palestine Recognition

Spain’s minister of Foreign Affairs, Trinidad Jimenez that Spain is pushing the European Union to work towards the recognition of a Palestinian state.

According to Jimenez, who was speaking in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País, the two state solution “is an objective [Spain] has been trying to achieve for years, and I think this is the time to take a step forward”.

On September 2, Foreign Ministers from the European Union will meet in Sopot, Poland, in a summit that will focus on the Middle East. Syria’s and Libya’s crises will be the main topic on the agenda, along with Palestine’s bid for recognition at the UN.

Madrid advocates a unified position of support for the Palestinians at the UN amongst all EU member states. In the event that this is not achievable, however, it would like see a majority of states acting together. It considers this approach would be more useful for their bid than only isolated declarations of support.

‘We feel that now is the time to do something and give Palestinians hope that their state may become a reality,’ said Jimenez, ‘We have to give a signal, or frustration will build among the Palestinian population,’ she added. ‘They too want to be part of the movement towards democracy and freedom which the Arab world is going through at the moment.

She added that, ‘Going to the United Nations can’t be seen as an act of hostility against anyone… It’s much better to use international legal channels than any other method.’

Together with Palestine recognition, Jimenez also emphasized the need to revive negotiations between Israel and Palestine. “We also call for dialogue between the parties to discuss the consequences of this recognition regarding the capital, refugees, borders, etc.” she said.

Maradona, speaking in English, accepts the scarf and hugs the man to thank him before flashing a victory sign and telling the camera “Viva Palestina.”
